Eat, Pray, Love: Dolce Farniente

                                                                                                                                           A scene

"You sound good", says the character of Julia Roberts from an Indonesian country to her former partner. Lover, even. "Yes, but I am an actor, Lisa" he responds. People act: to themselves, to be in the world and to maintain relationships. Some relationships require more acting than others. Julia Roberts' character has found it difficult to maintain her marriage. All that kitchen furniture buying in the weekends was too much for her. Her handsome looking and easy going husband became part of the past; together with the superficial conversations they had to have at several parties together. Including their own wedding.

Elizabeth (Julia Roberts) thinks back to her wedding day while she is on a self-finding trip. She remembers the song she and her husband had danced to. How cheerful he was, how he started to move around while everyone was looking at them- expecting them to do the wedding dance. She ran away shortly after. She told her mom that ever since she has known herself, she has either been in a relationship or getting out of one. Yet, until the end of the movie we see her do the same thing three times.

During her trip, she stops at Italy first. Purely geographical reasons. She eats amazing food and tries to broaden her mind. She learns a phrase through a casual friendship she establishes with a local person: "dolce farniente". It means "the beauty of not doing anything". This is exactly what I'll do.

Ruin is, indeed, a gift :) you have to know from where to look at things. This entry is a tribute to the beloved character Raj in Big Bang Theory who said that this movie had changed his life :)
